Water Sports – 2025

This page was updated on April 23, 2025 and we currently anticipate another wonderful summer of water sports on the reservoirs within easy reach of Park City.  The Jordanelle is our home reservoir, but like last summer, we anticipate at least one monthly outing to another reservoir to mix things up.  This summer we again plan to be out on the water each Thursday morning.  Last summer our Thursday morning water sports started June 20th and ended September 15th.

Check back here and/or see the Club Summer Calendar in mid to late May for our summer weekly schedule and any additional information.

As a preview, please note that we usually meet at each reservoir at 830am so that we can be on the water by 9 AM.  Single kayaks, double kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are expected to be available for rent in advance at our discounted club rates when we are at the Jordanelle.  For most other reservoirs you will need to bring your own equipment.  If you bring your own equipment to any reservoir you will be required by the State of Utah to take this short 2025 Mussel-Aware Boater Program course to participate.

The information below is from 2024 and will be updated once our summer schedule is made available.

SIGN-UP PROCEDURES:

The first time you paddle with us this season at any reservoir (one-time only for the summer):  You must sign the Park City Mountain Sports Club waiver form which you can print and bring with you.  You can alternatively sign a supplied printed waiver at the event.

Before you paddle with us this season at the Jordanelle Reservoir (one-time only for the Summer):   If you are renting a kayak or stand-up paddle board, you must fill out the Jordanelle Rentals’ online waiver form.

Every time you paddle with us this season at the Jordanelle Reservoir and want to rent equipment:   Before you arrive you need to order your equipment from Jordanelle Rentals online. You are encouraged to make your reservation by Tuesday evening of the week of the event.  Jordanelle Rentals has lots of equipment but it is available on a first-come, first-served basis.  We highly recommend using our discount rental code which saves you 35%:  PCMTN.  Additionally, we encourage you to bring a little cash ($3-5) to add to the tip jar.  As with most equipment rentals, you are personally responsible if any of the rental equipment is damaged or lost.

Every time you paddle with us this season at any location: Email the activity coordinators (details at the bottom of this email) and let them know that you will be attending and how many people in your group.  Please do this no later than Tuesday evening of the week of the event.

Additional things to know:

  • ADDITIONAL FEES TO ENTER STATE PARKS: All of the reservoirs are state parks.  You will be required to pay for a day pass or an annual pass.  You can purchase online or at the park entrance.  The Jordanelle Reservoir day pass is $20 per vehicle.  For obvious reasons you may want to consider carpooling with someone with an annual pass if you don’t have one of your own.  Allow extra time for park entry if you need to purchase a pass.
  • WATER TEMPERATURE: Early in the season the water can be very cold, 60 degrees or less. Therefore, you should be comfortable being able to get back onto your stand-up paddleboard or kayak if you fall into water at these temperatures.
  • SIGNING IN AND OUT: We will have a sign in and sign out sheet at the start location so that we ensure everyone makes it back. Please make sure to sign out when you return, so we don’t leave anyone stranded on the reservoir.
  • DIRECTIONS TO JORDANELLE: Take Hwy 40 to exit 8. Turn toward reservoir. Enter park (1/2 mile), then follow signs to the Marina or Beach House or ask the gate attendant.
  • ESSENTIALS FOR PADDLING ACTIVITIES:
    1) Safety – Personal Flotation Device (PFD -required to be worn), swimming skills. These are included with rentals.
    2) Fluids – water or sports drink to cover time on water
    3) Food – Snacks, trail mix, fruit or energy bars
    4) Clothes – paddling shoes or sandals (or you can go barefoot), waterproof jacket, shirt or wind breaker, hat, sailing or biking gloves (optional), wet suit (optional) for SUP activity
