Friday July 26 – Moderate Hike – Snow Park to Silver Lake to Snow Park – Loop Hike

Meet in the Snow Park Lodge upper drop-off/parking area, not lot 1.  Park facing the street at the western end of the parking area.  There is plenty of parking.  Look for our silver Expedition.   Please be ready for an on time departure of 8:30am.

Steve Holmes will lead a moderate loop hike ascending from Snow Park to Silver Lake and back to Snow Park by different trails to make a complete loop hike. This will be a 6.7 mile loop hike with 1290 feet of elevation gain.  Almost all of the elevation gain is in the 3.3 miles ascending to Silver Lake.  We will hike up Rossi Hill trail to Lookout trail to Silver Lake.  This segment starts and ends with short road stretches.  This is a well maintained trail with nice panoramic vistas and views of Old Town, the Alliance Mine area and the Ontario Mine.  Both trails are shaded and mountain bikers are occasionally encountered.  If anyone does not want to hike back to Snow Park, the chairlift ride down from Silver Lake is free.  The descent will be along Mid Mountain trail to Deer Crest trail to the St Regis to Snow Park Lodge.  These are well maintained trails with nice panoramic vistas and views of the Jordanelle Reservoir, the St. Regis and Lower Deer Valley.  The hike will be at a moderate pace of 2.0 mph and take 3 to 3 1/2 hours with stops along the way.  We will have a short break at Silver Lake for a snack and facility break.  When we encounter mountain bikers we will step uphill to clear the trail for them, if possible.

Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on Deer Valley property.  Cell service is good.  There are restrooms at Snow Park and Silver Lake Plaza.

Please remember the 4 hiking essentials.

All participants are required to sign the Club’s Activity Release Form which will be provided by the leader.

If the weather does not look good on the morning of the hike, contact the hike leader to see if the hike has been cancelled, text or cell.  Please do not select email communication for the morning of the hike.
