Tuesday July 15 – Moderate Hike – Lofty Lakes in the Unitas – Loop Hike
Meet at Kamas Food Town parking lot at 8.45am for an on time 9am departure carpooling to Pass Trailhead. Look for our blue sprinter van in the lot.
The drive from Kamas Food Town to Pass trailhead is around 40 minutes. National Park Pass is required for parking at the trailhead. This is a moderate loop trail passing multiple lakes with some great views. The loop is around 4.9 miles and 950 vertical feet and takes about 3 hours including stopping for lunch/snacks. The whole hike is above 10,000 feet elevation, so if you’re not confident hiking at higher altitude, this hike is not for you.
Dogs are welcome – bring enough water for them, but they can also drink from the lakes along the way. There will be no cell service on this hike. Bring snacks and lunch. We’ll stop for a short snack break by Kamas Lake and then stop for a longer lunch break at a viewpoint above Lofty Lake, after we have completed most of the climb. There were a few patches of bugs when we did the hike on June 30.
Please remember the 4 hiking essentials. Put on sunscreen, a shade hat, bring water, snacks and lunch. Bug/mosquito wipes/spray is recommended.
All participants are required to sign the Club”s Activity Release Form which will be provided by the leaders.
If the weather is questionable on the morning of the hike, please call or text, not email, the leaders to see if the hike has been cancelled.
