FRIDAY JULY 10 – Leisure hike – From the Gambel Oak North trailhead on Solamere Drive
Meet at the Gambel Oak North trailhead, just past 3412 Solamere Dr. across the street from the 25 MPH sign. There is plenty of parking. Please park below the trail head on the down hill side of Solamere Dr. for an on time 9AM departure.
This will be a 3.0 mile loop hike with 330 feet of elevation gain. This is a well maintained trail with nice vistas towards PCM Canyons, Park Meadows, the Rail Trail, Round Valley and Quinn’s Junction. We will hike at a pace of about 1.5+/- mph, as the group, or 2 groups, want to go, with several stops for water and the views. The hike will take 1.5 to 2.0 hours including stops. This is a popular trail so please bring a mask, buff or bandana. We may encounter mountain bikers and will step uphill to clear the trail for them, if possible.
Dogs are welcome but please have a leash for the road. The last short part of the hike is along the road. Cell service is good.
Kathy and Steve Holmes will co-lead this hike with a maximum of 16 people split into 2 groups of 8 to facilitate hiking ability and proper social distancing. Therefore, this will be a RSVP hike. Send an email to sandkholmes@comcast.net if you wish to join. Kathy or Steve will advise you by return email if you are on the list or if you are on a wait list.
Be sure to bring the club’s Activity Release Form, (COVID-19), which is to be signed on the day of the hike and deposit the form in the box in the back of the Holmes’s car. The form may be found on the club’s web site under the “ABOUT US” tab.
Please remember the 4 hiking essentials including good hiking or trail footwear. Put on sunscreen, a sun hat and bring water & snacks.
If the weather is questionable on the morning of the hike, please contact the co-leaders to see if the hike has been cancelled.
